Famous tamil people around world

Well, most of them have mentioned the Famous Tamils around the world. Who are of Indian origin.

There is another Important person who is actually going unnoticed and most of Indians aren't aware of her.

Even during my college presentation, i spoke about this Most espected woman and about her achievements, for this additional information i got full marks. she is an inspiration so proud to write about her.

She is Dr.Navaneetham Pillay/Pillai aka “Navi Pillay” - South African Jurist

Ethnically Navaneedham Pillai is a South African of Indian Tamil origin, born in 1941 in a very poor family along with 7 siblings in Durban, South Africa. As a person of Indian descent, she experienced the brunt of Racism and poverty.

Her father was a bus drive an her parents struggled to take care of their eight children.

Education and Equality was her parent's Priority.

They believed in equality of all children and gave education to both boys an girls, for which they are proud of having such enlightened parents because of whom Navaneedham Pillai’s sister and brothers are now renowned layers and school principals in South Africa.

While Navaneedham Pillai combined her education with a drive to fight injustice, dedicating herself to defending human rights abuses in South Africa and around the world.

Navaneedham Pillai and her achievements Timeline :

  1. She was supported by her local Indian community with donations, in 1963 she graduated from UNiversity if Natal with BAchelor OF Arts degree and Bachelor Of Legislative Law (LLB).
  2. In 1967 she became the first Non-white woman to open her own law practice in Natal by providing legal assistance to the activists who were detained by the apartheid government.
  3. In 1982 she obtained a Master Of Law and in 1988 a Doctor of Juridical Science from Harvard University (USA). Navaneedham Pillai was the first South African to graduate from The Harvard.
  4. In 1995 when the apartheid government was ended and a democratic government was sworn in she was appointed as the First Non-WHite WOman to serve as a judge in the High Court Of Natal. She even received a personal call of congratulations from President Nelson Mandela.
  5. In the same year that is 1995, she was elected by the United Nations General Assembly to serve as a judge at the International Criminal Tribunal, Rwanda for eight years.
  6. This major achievement as a woman, On 24-July-2008 United Nations secretary Ban K-Moon nominated Navaneedham Pillai as High Commissioner For Human Rights. She served as the High Commissioner For Human rights at The United Nations from 2008–2014.

In 2009 Forbes ranked Navaneedham Pillai as 64th Most Powerful Woman in the World.

This is the real Women Empowerment from Bottom to Top, and the credit goes to her parents too who wanted to educate their kids and as Result is 200%. She is an inspiration to us and another example that shows a woman can do anything and reach such heights.
